In Nepal it is still possible to see butterflies flying at altitudes of over 3000m. Indian Tortoiseshell are a common sight even in October when nights can be quite cold. This butterfly is basking in the sunshine on a Mani stone. These are religious carved stones and many were made several hundred years old. "Mani walls" made up of these stones are found in the villages in the Buddhist areas of the Himalayas. These were located below the monastery at Thame, Sagarmartha national Park, Nepal
