Reduction linocut on Japanese Awagmi washi paper

This print was based on my studies of Avocet from the RSPB Eric Morecombe Hide.
The process I used is called the reduction linocut or suicide method. A single block was used to apply four layers of colour. The image on the block was carved away between each colour press. If a mistake is made in the carving, the plate cannot be replaced and the whole edition is in effect ruined. Hense the term "suicide". The result of the process is a final edition of four unique prints each hand printed on Japanese washi paper.
